Chat update as of September 2014

Our weekly #awcchat on Twitter about communications-related  topics is still going strong (11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Central on Thursdays unless the host has a travel conflict) but we recently lost all of our chat transcripts on Chirpstory. I’m not sure why, but now all links to our AWC Channel and past chats simply redirect to the Chirpstory homepage.

We’re starting to explore Nurph chat “replays” as a chat transcript alternative – here’s the link to our latest chat on 25 September, about guest blogging and article-writing.

We’ve also launched a series of online learning sessions called Know to Grow and Speed Mentoring, which are free to AWC members. Learn more on our AWC – Association for Women in Communications – Professional Development Events page.

Follow the @AWCchat account on Twitter and the “mothership” at @AWCConnect. We’re working on the October 2014 chat topics right now.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 43rd #AWCChat on Twitter, about how to acknowledge, celebrate and publicize when you win an award, but not come across as an annoying show-off.

Three questions were posed:

1)  If you get a significant award, should you send out a press release? Why or why not?

2)  How can you publicize your award(s) on your website & social media channels? Or is it not appropriate for social?

3)  How can you give back if you’ve been blessed with award recognition? (nominate someone else for one, yo!)

—>>  We mentioned that the AWC Clarion Award nominations are open, with a wide variety of communications award categories. Check it out!

Five items were posted for discussion:

1)   Has anyone here ever been in (or “have a friend” who’s been in) a PR crisis position with a client?

2)   What’s the difference between a social media PR crisis & a general sort of crisis?

4)   What key lessons can we learn from past #SMflubs like Susan G. Komen vs. Planned Parenthood?

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 34th  #AWCChat on Twitter, about how to find a relevant, decently-paying job with a communications degree.

We had some great advice on the chat from several people who landed excellent jobs in their field, including the communications manager for a major arts company and another who works in A/C/E marketing (Architecture, Construction and Engineering.)
