Summary transcript for 13 June 2013 #AWCchat: Website and Blog Stats That Matter

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 57th #AWCChat on Twitter, about which stats really matter in your website and blog analytics.

Here is what we discussed:

1)  What is some basic info you want to know about your website/blog visitors? Hint: you want to know how people found your site (through a link? Keyword search – which words? Social media?)

2)  How do you measure whether you’re getting more visitors (traffic) to your site?

The transcript includes specific sections to pay attention to in your analytics. Don’t miss all of the helpful how-to Resource links we tweeted, either.

Summary transcript for 30 May 2013 #AWCchat: Professional Development

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 56th #AWCChat on Twitter, about communications learning and professional development.

The chat was run by the AWC National Board Chair Maria Henneberry, who kindly stepped in at the last minute. Turnout was low, but we’ve learned that even when it seems like no one is around, there are “lurkers” who are absorbing the discussion.

Maria threw out a lot of questions and thoughts – take a look at them in the transcript and send her a tweet at @MariaHenneberry if you have feedback on any of it. She’d love to hear from you!

Summary transcript for 23 May 2013 #AWCchat: Finding and Being a Mentor

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 55th #AWCChat on Twitter, about mentoring.

Here is what we discussed:

1)  What does the term “mentor” mean to you? Is it a buzzword, or is there real meat behind it?

2)  If “everyone says” you should have a mentor (or 2) then how does one acquire this magic person?  :)

3)  If you’re in a position to be a mentor yourself, what holds you back?

Don’t miss all of the helpful how-to Resource links we tweeted, either.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 54th #AWCChat on Twitter, about how to efficiently handle your email (and yes, it’s a challenge for all of us. You are not alone.)

Here is what we discussed:

1)  Why do you think so many of us struggle w/groaning piles of email? It’s NOT because we are lazy or stupid, either.

2)  What is your process for handling email? Certain times of day/when they come in? On phone or desktop?

3)  How can you keep stuff out of your IN box to start with? Let’s talk about filters & Unsubscribing.

4)  What is ONE thing you’d like to do, starting today, to more efficiently handle your email?

Don’t miss all of the helpful how-to Resource links we tweeted, either.

Summary transcript for 25 April 2013 #AWCchat: Dressing for Business

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 53rd #AWCChat on Twitter, about dressing for business with style, so that you look professional but still look like YOU.

Here is what we discussed:

1)  Describe your Number One go-to business outfit. Why does it give you confidence?

2)  Some standard work outfits are, well, boring. How can we dress with color without looking clownish?

3)  The whole “business casual” thing can be a landmine for women. Describe a women’s biz casual outfit.

4)  How can you try a trend at work? Example: new nail polish designs with chevrons, dots, etc.

There were plenty of reference links shared, too, including a blog that is all about corporate dressing.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 52nd #AWCChat on Twitter, with guest host and AWC National Chair Maria Henneberry talking about authentic communication.

Maria held a free-flowing conversation about what it means to be an authentic communicator, whether it’s something that you just “are,” or can you prepare to become one, and how vulnerability can actually make your communications even more effective.

Summary transcript for 11 April 2013 #AWCchat: Blurred lines between PR, marketing and advertising

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 51st #AWCChat on Twitter about today’s convergence of PR, marketing and advertising, and what that means for professional communicators.

There were only two questions posed, but a lot of discussion flowed from them….

1)  Defining terms as they are understood today: what really IS the big difference between PR and marketing? Or is there one, in reality?

2)  Sponsored content = content you pay for that looks “real” (if it’s done well.) How can you avoid the landmines inherent in creating it?

Some top-notch resource links shared in this chat, too!

Summary transcript for 4 April 2013 #AWCchat: Blogger and online media outreach

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 50th #AWCChat on Twitter (did you see that? 50th!) about better blogger and online media outreach, especially for PR folks but as usual, anyone was welcome to participate.

Several issues were discussed, including:

1)  Are your communications goals for online media coverage different than your goals for print, TV, radio, etc.?

2)  Let’s say your market niche is outdoor recreation. How would you find bloggers/online media who cover that niche?

3)  So, you have something to pitch to someone in online media. Is it different than pitching a print reporter?

Lots of great resource links shared in this chat, too!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our 49th #AWCChat on Twitter, about creating the most productive work day for YOUR way of doing business.

Several issues were discussed, including:

1)  How people on the chat define “perfect, successful work day” for themselves.

2)  Setting up a personal productivity system (paper or digital?)

3)  Summarizing one’s own “perfect work day” in one tweet, which is actually a helpful way to distill what is most important to YOUR success and productivity.

Lots of great resource links shared in this chat, too!
